The Food Handler Certification Program
The Food Handler Certification Program provides the knowledge to handle food safely and prevent foodborne illness. Training and exam options with Lambton Public Health include in-class training and drop-in re-certification exams.
Certification is valid for five (5) years.
In-Person
Food Handler Certification courses are offered at Lambton Public Health. This course is facilitated by our certified Public Health Inspectors.
• Cost: $40
• Pay and register online
• One-day course from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Includes course review and examination.
Self Study
You can study the course material at home and write the exam during drop-in hours at the Lambton Public Health office. Download the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Food Handler Training Manual.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit offers a free online food safety course. This option provides course material only. The exam must be completed in person at one of the drop-in dates to receive certification.
Exam Drop-in
Exam dates are in person and open to anyone looking to challenge the exam. The exam may be challenged by those who have completed a self-study option or have been previously certified and are looking to recertify.
• 50 multiple-choice questions.
• A minimum grade of 70% or higher is required.
