Rescinding Local Letter of Instruction for Sports and Recreation Facilities

Point Edward, ON – Effective immediately, due to recent provincial announcements and pending changes to vaccination verification the local Letter of Instruction requiring proof of vaccination for persons entering facilities used for sport and recreational fitness activities in Lambton County is no longer in effect. The letter was developed by the health unit under the authority outlined in the Reopening Ontario Act.

The instructions were issued on October 26, 2021 and required proof of vaccination for anyone over the age of 12 who enters an indoor area of this type of facility to participate in, coach, officiate or watch an organized sporting event. Full details of the rescinded Letter of Instruction are posted on the website.

The timing coincides with key public health and health system indicators continuing to improve, and the move by Ontario to cautiously and gradually ease public health and workplace safety measures. Some local businesses may decide to continue or slowly phase out the proof of vaccination requirements in order to support the safety of clients and staff. Please be patient, friendly and respectful that individuals may be at different levels of comfort based on their own level of risk.

As a community, we have taken strides to move forward. It has been achieved through high rates of COVID-19 vaccination and support for public health measures through the commitment by individuals, organizations, businesses and communities. All in an effort to protect the most vulnerable and support our health system.

We are well-practiced to continue with basic actions that prevent illness.

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Use other protective measures, such as mask/face covering requirements and active/passive screening of patrons.

Learn more about the Ontario plan to reopen and the public health and workplace safety measures in effect as of March 1, 2022.

Local COVID-19 vaccination continues to be available at select pharmacies, health care providers, or visit the website GetTheVaccine.ca to attend a community clinic.
