Healthy Growth and Development

Lambton Public Health (LPH) supports schools and families in promoting healthy growth, development, and overall well-being by providing classroom supports, presentations, and connections to appropriate public health resources.

Teaching Supports

LPH can support educators by providing:

  • Evidence-informed curriculum resources and teaching supports
  • Information to support discussions about health, relationships, and well-being

Examples of topics supported by LPH include:

  • Puberty and body changes
  • Healthy relationships and sexual health education
  • Positive relationships with food and body image
  • Physical activity
  • Substance use prevention

Creating Positive School Environments

Positive school environments help students feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.

Lambton Public Health can support schools by providing:

  • Evidence-informed resources that promote student well-being
  • Activities that foster belonging and positive relationships
  • Resources that encourage protective factors such as resilience, inclusion, and connectedness
  • Consultation to support healthy school initiatives and planning

School Community Events

LPH may attend school community events to share information about public health programs, services, and health promotion messages that support students and families.

Examples of events include:

  • Health and wellness events
  • High school transition events
  • Kindergarten registration events (including KinderSTARt)
  • School open houses
  • Parent/teacher nights
  • Youth wellness summits and fairs

National Healthy Schools Week

National Healthy Schools Week is an annual event, held each October, that encourages schools to plan activities that promote student health and well-being throughout the school year.

Lambton Public Health can support schools by providing:

  • Planning toolkits and activity ideas
  • Curriculum-aligned classroom activities
  • Consultation to support healthy school planning
  • Connections to available public health resources
