Physical Activity and Student Leadership
Supporting Active and Healthy School Communities
Lambton Public Health (LPH) supports schools in creating active, inclusive environments that encourage physical activity, student leadership, belonging, and positive social connections.
LPH provides schools with resources and implementation support for initiatives that promote active and healthy school communities.
Active Transportation

LPH can provide resources and support to help schools promote active transportation.
Playground Activity Leaders in Schools (PALS)
Playground Activity Leaders in Schools (PALS) is a student leadership program that encourages older elementary students (Grades 4–6) to lead younger students (Grades 1–3) in inclusive playground activities during recess.
How PALS Supports Schools
PALS helps schools:
- Build student leadership skills
- Increase physical activity opportunities
- Promote inclusion and belonging
- Create positive playground environments
- Support healthy relationships and reduce conflict
How The Program Works
PALS follows a train-the-trainer model. School staff are trained as program facilitators who support student leaders throughout the school year.
Student leaders learn and practice:
- Leadership skills
- Communication skills
- Conflict resolution
- Fair play strategies
Student leaders then plan and lead activities that encourage participation, safety, and inclusion among younger students.
